Amsterdam

It is a beautiful thing in life where you have such a love and strong connection to something, whether that be a person, a place or a hobby. I’m not just talking about how much I love pizza but a deeper love, something that is part of your soul and makes you you. I have loads of thing – nature, fresh air, the sound of birds singing, designing, cycling, jazz and Amsterdam.
I’m not sure what it is but it just has such an overwhelming effect on me. Since I first visited I dream of being there all of the time. It’s just magical, probably because of the thc and psilocybin to be honest but it’s legal so I can say that.
I first visited with my boyfriend when I was about 20 and it really is a very interesting place. Lots of narrow streets to explore leading onto canal after canal. It is literally a maze. There are bikes EVERYWHERE, I was so taken back by the amount of bikes and it seems like they have full right of way over everyone. It is the primary way of transport there which I think is amazing. I hate driving, I want to feel the air and the sun when its sunny. Not to mention the positive effect on the environment.
I’ll be honest I haven’t been to many capital cities, so maybe if I went to Paris or Rome id fall in love too but Amsterdam is very unique and I don’t want cathedrals and ruins, I want coffee shops and canals.
Its been a while since me and my boyfriend went on holiday, in fact we haven’t at all since I was pregnant the first time in 2016. We have had a tough and very intense 3 years and we deserve a freaking break. So for my birthday 20th April (which is 420 the national weed smoking day, just putting that out there) my lovely boyfriend booked us a visit to Amsterdam. My mum looked after the kids. Ive been very worried about leaving them until recently where I need a break that much that I see the reality that they will be fine and could do with a revived momma.
It was only 2 nights 3 days as it was the first time we was leaving the kids and the forecast was full sun 23 degrees. We couldn’t believe our luck. We planned to have lots of rest when we were there but getting up at 4am for the flight was not a good start. But we arrived in Amsterdam at 8am with the full day ahead of us which was great.
As soon as we got there we had a little wonder, already spotting the amazing bakeries. We stopped at restaurant on the main road Damrak for breakfast. We sat outside is the beautiful sun and ordered pancakes. What a moment. We arrived in Amsterdam early enough for breakfast, and it was just us two on our own enjoying every second. We had needed this for so long.
